Thousands Evacuated in Pacific Palisades

1/7/25- Pacific Palisades, CA – A devastating wildfire, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds, has swept through the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, causing widespread destruction and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate. The blaze, which started as a small brush fire on Tuesday morning, rapidly grew to over 5,000 acres by Tuesday evening.​

California State public education is being challenged!
​
12/19/24 -Just last this Tuesday Santa Ana Unified School District recently announced that the district plans on terminating over 350 teaching and staff position scheduled as early as March 15th, 2025. The reasoning and the cause has left the Santa Ana community in an uproar! and deeply confused. Teachers, parents, and concerned citizens demand answers.

Santa Ana School District Superintendent, Jerry Michael Almendedarez, has official accepted a 3% pay raise along with a 3% bonus as he and the Board members terminated more than 350 districtwide employees. ​

According to SAUSD, the sudden cause is due in part of the exhaustion of pandemic funds, low student enrollment, and poor student outcomes. Nevertheless, Proportion 2 and Proportion 4 passed this General Election in California and consequently, Proposition 2 & 4 funds are also not applicable for preventing teacher layoffs. To address budget shortfalls and potential layoffs, SAUSD would need to explore other funding sources or cost-saving measures that directly impact operational budgets.

While these funds are designated for infrastructure projects, such as building new classrooms or modernizing existing ones, they are not intended to cover operational expenses like salaries and other expenses that are not infrastructural. Proposition 2 funds cannot be directly used to prevent teacher layoffs in SAUSD.

Similarly, Proposition 4, which allocates $10 billion for climate resilience projects, does not provide funding for school operational costs or student academic outcomes.
